Roman Lorica Segmentata – Black Finish

Product details :

Material : Mild Steel

Finish : Oiled Natural : Blackened

The lorica segmentata is the first (commonly used) plate armor made of iron plates and gave the legionary of the time excellent protection against swords, spears and projectiles of the time. Although being excellent protection it was expensive to make and maintain and it never completely replaced the mail (Lorica Hamata) and scale armor (Lorica Squamata). However for the modern mind the Lorica Segmentata typifies the classical Roman soldier.

This type of armor is believed to have been introduced in the ranks of the Roman Army during the first century CE and widely used at the height of the Roman Empire. Our replica is superb, made of 1.2 mm thick steel. It is closely copied from a type of Lorica Segmentata found in Corbridge, England that dates to approx. 30 CE.

This armor is surprising flexible and allows plenty of freedom of movement.
