Description
If you were a soldier in the Roman army, there’s a strong possibility you would have carried something like the Roman Legionary Scutum with you. Originally developed by the Italic people, this design was adopted by the Romans. Modeled after the traditional design, this piece features Poplar wood construction and is accented by a brass boss and riveted brass edging. The back side is comprised of strips of wood and a horizontal wooden grip. Though this shield is smaller in size and weighs less than the standard scutum, it will be great for costumes, media productions, and re-enactments.
Please Note: The shield ships with the shield boss unmounted, so some assembly is required. Mounting hardware is included.
Hue of shield colors can vary.
It is common for this item to have patination on the brass shield rim and shield boss – it can be cleaned to a bright sheen with polishing paste and scuff pads.
