Description
A typical helmet of the Middle-Byzantine period, usually with a neck guard and occasionally a crest holder. It’s often represented in visual sources of the period; e.g. in the Skylitzes Matritensis manuscript and in the 11th century frescoes of the St. Mary’s Cathedral in Kiev. A sample, probably later modified, comes from Kairouan in Tunisia, dated to the 11th century.
Mild steel 1.6 mm, inner leather padding, padded neckguard.
