Description
An extremelly well documented typology in archaeological finds from Southern Italy, where this helmet was developed, the Apulo-Corinthian (or Italo-Corinthian) helmet probably was used for a very long time.
The archaeological specimens can de bated to a wide time frame, from the 6th to the 4th century BCE.
In visual sources (particularly among Romans and Etruscans), this helmet is represented for a much longer period – we still find Apulo-Corinthian helmets on the Altar of Domitius Enobarbus (end of the 2nd century BCE).
The decorative boars on the “cheekpieces” is one of the most typical and recurring motifs on archaeological specimens.
