Description

Imperial Gallic Helmet A.

First model of the Imperial Gallic or Weisenau typology.
Dated between the end of the 1st century BCE and the beginning of the 1st century CE (Augustan Age) on the base of the pottery found with the speciment, near Nijmegen (Nederland).
It features two embossed “eyebrows” on the front of the skull, typical of all the types of this typology; it also features earholes without additional protections.

This particular model is tinned, based on a specimen from the Axel Guttman collection. Tinning was used at least from the 5th century BCE, it prevented metal from rusting and gave a shining appearance to the piece of equipment.

End 1st century BCE – Beginning 1st century CE

Tinned steel, leather covering.

Available in two sizes: M (22×18 cm); L (23×19 cm).
